Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (on-premises)
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (on-premises)
Many organisations, government agencies, and regulated industries still run Dynamics CRM on their own servers instead of Microsoft’s cloud. Usually it comes down to a data residency requirement, a network that can’t rely on constant internet access, or a security policy written before cloud CRM was even an option. None of that makes on-premises the wrong choice it’s a legitimate, supported way to run Dynamics, and Microsoft still supports it.
What’s changed is everything around it. Most of Microsoft’s newer capabilities, including nearly all the AI and Copilot features, now ship cloud-first, and a shrinking number of partners still take on on-premises work at all, let alone an older version of it. So a lot of these environments end up running on customizations nobody currently on staff wrote, patched by whoever’s willing to open the server.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (on-premises)
- Data residency or jurisdiction rules that a cloud region can't satisfy on its own.
- Network environments with limited or controlled internet access ; common in some government and defence settings.
- Full control over the server, database, and backup schedule, instead of sharing infrastructure with other tenants.
- An existing infrastructure investment that hasn't reached end of life.
- Security policy that predates cloud CRM as an option, and hasn't been revisited since.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (on-premises): The Trade-Offs
None of this is a sales pitch pretending on-premises has no downsides. It does, and they’re worth knowing before you decide whether to stay or move.
- Updates, patching, and scaling are your responsibility, not Microsoft's.
- Newer Dynamics capabilities, especially AI features, are increasingly cloud-first or cloud-only.
- Fewer partners still support on-premises deployments ; and fewer still support older versions of one.
- Custom plugins and workflows built years ago tend to outlive the person who understood them.
What Xpert Dynamics Does
- We take over on-premises CRM environments other partners won't touch, including older, out-ofmainstream-support versions.
- We document existing customisations and plugins, so the system doesn't depend on one person's memory of how it was built.
- We apply security patches and fixes without forcing a move to the cloud, if that's not the right call yet.
- When a cloud migration does make sense, we build the path to it on your timeline, not a forced cutover.
- We bring custom development depth beyond configuration legacy plugin work and Azure integrations where the standard toolset runs out.
- We work from established delivery playbooks, so an engagement starts from a defined plan, not a standing start.
